My Corner of ISU
If I had to pick one spot in ISU that feels like “mine,” it wouldn’t be the library or the cafeteria, and definitely not the classrooms. It would be the Marketing Office. To someone passing by, it looks like any other office with desks, computers, and piles of paper. But for me, it is where most of my ISU memories live. It’s where I work with interns, where ideas suddenly turn into real projects, and where I feel both challenged and at home.
The space itself is nothing fancy. The walls are decorated with posters from old events, reminders of projects that once started in the exact same room. Coffee cups sit on desks, some half-finished, because we’re always rushing between tasks. The keyboards click nonstop, and every now and then, someone bursts out laughing because of a typo or a design gone wrong. It’s messy, it’s noisy in the best way, and it feels alive.
I like how the office gathers people together. The interns come in with their own ideas, and we all sit around bouncing them back and forth. Sometimes we disagree, sometimes the first draft is a disaster, but slowly everything falls into place. That’s the part I love most, the process. It’s not just about finishing the work, but about watching how a group of people with different thoughts and styles can create something together.
There was one night I will never forget. We were editing a video to welcome new students, and it dragged on much longer than we expected. The office turned into our little studio. We had snacks everywhere, music playing softly, and our eyes glued to the screen as we fixed subtitles and trimmed clips. We were tired, but we laughed through it, teasing each other about silly mistakes. By the time we finished, it was already late, but none of us cared. The office that night didn’t feel like work. It felt like a living room where friends were creating something meaningful.
This room has taught me more than I expected. Marketing sounds like posters, captions, and numbers, but in this office, I learned it is really about storytelling. It’s about sharing who we are at ISU and inviting others to be part of that story. I’ve also learned what it means to work with people. Sometimes I need to lead, sometimes I need to listen, and most of the time I just need to trust the process. These small lessons are shaping me in ways I know will stay with me long after I leave this university.
What makes the Marketing Office my favorite place is not just the work, though. It’s the feeling. No matter how stressful the day gets, I know I can walk in, sit with the interns, and immediately feel lighter. The laughter, the inside jokes, the quiet focus when everyone is busy, it creates a rhythm that feels safe and familiar. It’s not a big place, but it holds so many memories that matter to me.
When I think about my time at ISU, I won’t just remember the campus buildings or the classrooms. I’ll remember this office, the glow of computer screens late at night, the posters taped to the walls, the teamwork, the mistakes that made us laugh, and the pride we felt when a project finally came to life. The Marketing Office is more than just a favorite spot. It is the place that gave me confidence, friendships, and a sense of belonging.
